It's easy to limit our potential. We can hide behind 'ifs' and 'buts' rather than being inspired to act. We can blame others and take a victim approach. None of which do us any good.
The seven ways people can limit their potential rather than making change:
1. Think things can’t change because they can’t see a better way forward
2. Hide behind ‘buts’ as a reason to not take action
3. Think the problem is everyone else, not them
4. Have closed their mind and are not able to appreciate another view
5. Lack awareness of how they project themselves to others
6. Perceive a situation based on fixed assumptions
7. Not speaking up when they feel strongly about something and regretting it later
In this case, it's about making change in your life that will result in a positive outcome. Not change for the sake of it or without understanding the reason for it.
Even though embracing change is often uncomfortable, it's part of the process. It's the same when you learn a new skill, the process of learning is hard too until you 'get it'. No improved performance ever came from taking a comfortable approach. Just ask any Olympic, or non Olympic, athlete how they achieved great results. Blood. Sweat. And tears. I don't mean to dishearten you though. When we face challenges that are difficult, it often means the pay off is so worth it. If we lived in a constant state of happiness we'd never appreciate what true happiness really felt like. That's the point of the process - to get uncomfortable. Go with it knowing you will get a result that is far better than you would have had if you did nothing.
